Westin Timeshare + Hotel Project Approved

A major project that’s been in the works for years in Oceanside, CA, has cleared another hurdle, with the Oceanside City Council voting unanimously to approve the development of a Westin Hotel in the Downtown area. Other developers had strived to be approved to develop the site, including Marriott and local timeshare developer Jim Watkins, both of which finally fell by the wayside after years of ongoing approval battles with the city.

The project, a partnership between S.D. Malkin Properties and Interstate Hotels and Resorts, calls for a 302-room hotel with 72 timeshare units.

It’s set for a two-block area across from the historic Oceanside Pier. The project also calls for a spa, two restaurants, a bar and “significant meeting space area,” according to an executive with S. D. Malkin.

Jeremy Cohen, senior vice president of S. D. Malkin Properties, the project's managing partner, says that the resort will ultimately anchor a nine-block area that’s residential, retail, hotel and timeshare space. It is at the very center of the Oceanside redevelopment area.
